Abstract

This study analysed textual communication in the framing of the rice policy of Nigerian government on Facebook. Technological determinism theory formed the theoretical framework for the study. The study content analysed twenty-five posts on rice on Facebook accounts of selected government handles under the administration of late President Muhammadu Buhari. The findings of the study showed most of the posts on rice addressed issues around the rice policy of the government. Also, the findings showed the government’s commitment to achieving local production of rice and food sustainability. The study recommended that the Tinubu government should continue to make use of the social media in framing its rice policy and that such framing should not be limited to Facebook. It further recommended more use of video and graphic contents as alternatives to textual communication in the framing of the government’s rice policy.
